Learning Beyond Boundaries: A Celebration of Words, Numbers and Togetherness!
An Integrated Literacy and Numeracy Workshop for Parents and Students
At Don Bosco School, CBSE, Borivli West, Saturday, 17th October 2026, was a celebration of experiential learning as parents and students came together for interactive Literacy and Numeracy Workshops. Designed for parents of Grades 1 and 2 and students of Grades 3 and 4 respectively, the sessions highlighted an important educational philosophy: learning becomes meaningful when it extends beyond textbooks and embraces creativity, collaboration and joyful participation.
The Literacy Workshop, titled “Unlocking the Magic of Words Together!”, was conducted from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. for parents of Grades 1 and 2. The session focused on strengthening children’s vocabulary, communication, imagination and confidence through playful language-based activities. Parents were introduced to the importance of making literacy an enjoyable part of everyday life.
Three engaging games formed the heart of the session. “A–Z Word Wizards” challenged groups to identify a name, place, animal and thing for every letter of the alphabet, encouraging quick thinking and vocabulary enrichment. “Act It Out!” brought laughter into the room as participants enacted action words without speaking, allowing their teammates to identify the verbs through gestures and expressions. The final activity, “The Crazy Story Challenge,” invited parents to use ten unrelated objects to create and enact humorous stories. This activity beautifully demonstrated how imagination, sequencing, teamwork and oral expression contribute to language development.
Simultaneously, the Mathematics Numeracy Workshop for Grades 3 and 4 was conducted in the respective classrooms under the guidance of Mathematics Faculty teachers, Ms. Sonal Pereira and Ms. Yvonne Nunes. Witnessing an encouraging turnout of parents, the session commenced with a brief introduction, followed by an energetic warm-up involving Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes and Freeze Dance. The cheerful movements and laughter created an atmosphere of enthusiasm and togetherness.
Parents and students subsequently participated in a series of engaging mathematical challenges. “Shape Mosaic Magic” encouraged participants to create mosaics using twenty shapes, while “Shape It, Remember It” tested their observation and visual memory as they recalled the positions and colours of shapes after a brief viewing. “Uno Mania Magic” brought number formation to life, with student volunteers creating the largest and smallest numbers using number cards and reverse cards introducing exciting twists to the challenge. “Tangram Twist” encouraged groups to construct six different objects using tangram pieces, testing their spatial awareness and problem-solving abilities. The final activity, “Pin It, Stretch It,” allowed students to explore geometric patterns and designs using rubber bands on geoboards.
Beyond the activities, both workshops celebrated the importance of participation, leadership, teamwork, confidence and the joy of learning together. Parents experienced firsthand how literacy and numeracy concepts can be introduced through simple, practical and enjoyable experiences.
The Numeracy and Literacy Workshop concluded at 9:30 a.m. with a heartfelt vote of thanks and a group photograph. Both sessions received an encouraging response, with parents appreciating the teachers’ thoughtful efforts and the opportunity to actively participate in their children’s learning journey.
As educators, it was immensely rewarding to witness such enthusiasm and collaboration. The workshops reinforced our belief that when learning is transformed into an experience, knowledge becomes memorable, skills become meaningful and curiosity flourishes.
At Don Bosco School, we continue to believe that education is a partnership between teachers, parents and students. Together, let us nurture confident communicators, creative thinkers and enthusiastic problem-solvers, one joyful learning experience at a time!
